Leclerc confused with Ferrari troubles: "It's difficult to understand"

Charles Leclerc had to retire from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix after his Ferrari engine blew up on lap 21. He became the second Ferrari driver to retire from the race after Carlos Sainz had a different issue a few laps earlier. The man from Monaco explained he was mentally "hurt" with a second retirement in three races.

The double DNF gives Red Bull a big advantage in both World Championships. This all comes two weeks on from Ferrari's strategic blunder in Monaco which cost Leclerc the win in his home streets. Leclerc gave his thoughts by speaking to Sky Sports after his retirement.

"It hurts. We really need to look into that for it to not happen again. I don't really find the right words to describe it, it's disappointment. I don't know, we need to look into it," Leclerc said.

The race in Baku is only the eighth race in a 22-event season. Ferrari are already on the edge of their limit for the number of power units used and so penalties seem to loom later in the year. Leclerc is confused as to why these reliability issues have suddenly occurred. "We've been fast, we didn't have reliability problems in the first part of the season. Now it seems we have a bit more, but we didn't change massive things. It's difficult to understand for now, we will have to analyse. I don't have the full picture at the moment. Just personally, it hurts," Leclerc concluded.
