After some impressive debut races last year as Daniel Ricciardo's temporary replacement, many believe that Liam Lawson deserves a permanent spot on the grid. Peter Bayer, CEO of Red Bull Racing, has said that Lawson is next in line for a promotion, but this is not yet certain.

Musical chairs at Red Bull?

"It's very early days," VCARB CEO Peter Bayer tells Speedcafe. "It depends a bit on how the global market is developing. If there is a change in our team, there’s a big likely vote for Liam to be the one (To secure a seat)." If Lawson is not offered a seat by Red Bull before 2025, the New Zealander is free to consider offers from other teams.
The offer of a seat depends on what happens at Red Bull's sister team. Max Verstappen has a contract that runs until 2028, and despite rumours that he wants to leave the team, His teammate Sergio Perez is more at risk, especially now that there is a chance of Carlos Sainz coming to Red Bull.
It all depends on the situation at Red Bull, which is very unclear. "You don’t know how things are going at Red Bull. Potentially it could happen this year, I guess. But he’s our reserve driver, we clearly said that he is our number one candidate for a seat, if there is a seat."
