Contrary to his teammate Pierre Gasly , Daniil Kvyat is still in the dark about his future at AlphaTauri. Yesterday it was announced that Gasly will continue with the team next season.
The Frenchman has been rewarded for the excellent form he has shown since rejoining the team from Red Bull . He managed to take a podium in Brazil last year, finishing second and this year he won the Italian Grand Prix at Monza
Nervous wait for Kvyat
For Kvyat it will be a nervous wait. The Russian has been under pressure with Alpha Tauri keeping their options open, promoting Yuki Tsunoda just one of several possibilities. Earlier this season the Japanese man seemed to be the dream successor to Kvyat, partly because engine supplier Honda would like to see a Japanese man in Formula 1 again. Now that it is clear that Honda will leave after 2021, it is not so certain that we will see Tsunoda in the sport soon. Alex Albon, who has been under pressure all year at Red Bull, also has a chance to win Kvyat's seat if Red Bull decide to replace him.
Kvyat has been reguarly beaten by Gasly in qualifying and races despite showing glimpses of what he is capabe of. "I am aware of my situation and it is quite simple. There are, of course, very few seats left, but I can't do anything but my stinking best in the races we're getting," Kvyat told Motorsport.com .
