Verstappen appreciates that F1 has become more competitive but emphasizes that it must happen in a fair manner. “For the fans and for Formula 1, this is an ideal scenario,” Jos says in an interview with De Telegraaf about the competition between Verstappen and McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
“They want an exciting season and not someone winning twenty races, making it monotonous. But I believe there should be a level playing field. Like with those flexible front wings, which won't be banned until next week in Spain. Then certain teams would have benefited from it for too long. I find that unfair,” he adds.
McLaren has always denied that the stricter rules coming into effect from the Grand Prix of Spain will affect the performance of the MCL39. Team boss Andrea Stella recently stated that the car's strength does not come from flexible wings but from a combination of many different components.
