IndyCar to use new version of Red Bull Aeroscreen in 2020

The Aeroscreen had initially been tested in Formula 1 in 2016 but without the structure similar to the Halo currently used on the inside.
 
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner is  the CEO of Red Bull Advanced Technologies in collaboration with IndyCar.
 
Horner said in a statement on IndyCar’s website: “Since the first prototypes were developed and demonstrated in 2016, the potential of Aeroscreen to improve the safety for drivers in the event of frontal impacts in the cockpit area of cars has been clear.
 
“This new partnership with IndyCar gives us at Red Bull Advanced Technologies the go-ahead to fully explore that potential, and to deliver a protection system that will help prevent serious injuries and potentially save lives in the US’s premier single-seater series.

The laminated screen is polycarbonate and coated with anti-reflective on the inside to prevent as much glare as possible.

Back when it was tested in 2016 there wasn’t a titanium framework on the inside of the screen. This new structure can withstand 150 kilonewtons which is equivalent to that of the performance of the Halo.
