Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are locked in a close and fierce figt for the 205 Formula One World Drivers' Championship, a fight the Brit is tipped to lose if it goes down the Lewis Hamilton vs Max Verstappen 2021 path. The momentum currently,
various pundits have agreed, is with Norris given his back-to-back wins in Austria and Great Britain.
Following a suspension upgrade to the MCL39 the Brit has managed to get the upper hand on Piastri in terms of results,
which Norris has denied as having anything to do with his sudden revival, and given his usual strong late season push, Norris is believed to have the ability to close the title race ahead of his
McLaren teammate.
That's at least the view of F1TV analyst and commentator Jolyon Palmer. "I think Lando might find a run in the second half of the season and just put three or four races together, which will decide the shape of the title," said the former F1 driver on the F1 Nation Podcast.
Despite an inconsistent start to the 2025 campaign that saw him forego the lead in the standings to Piastri, Palmer gives Norris a vote of confidence adding that: "I think Norris will find his feet to get it."
But if it goes the Hamilton vs Verstappen 2021 route...
In 2021 Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton arrived at Abu Dhabi level on points, with the Briton, then driving for Mercedes, carrying the full momentum.
Palmer opines that if Piastri manages to stay level on points with Norris as the championship reaches the 24th and final championship round, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Australian then has the most chances to etch his name in the history books.
"If they get to the last-race shootout, and they are level on points, I would switch back to Oscar at that moment,” Palmer confessed.
“My theory is that Lando will do enough to get a lead before the final race, and then he’ll do it; hopefully, it’ll be a showdown, but he’ll have some points in hand at that point."
“But Oscar, otherwise, on a final race, is going to be tough to beat with that coolness.”
