Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren, has said that he thinks his team will benefit from Red Bulls decision to change engine suppliers to Honda, as it gives the French manufacturers more time to focus on themselves and McLaren.
McLaren ditched the Honda engine themselves after a struggling few seasons with the engine suppliers. Red Bull junior team took on Honda for this season and showed enough promise with them to convince the senior team to use the engine’s themselves from 2019.
The Woking based teams decision to team up with Renault started with a strong display from Fernando Alonso finishing fifth at the Australian Grand Prix, but the team only managed one top ten finish in the final six races of the season.
"We're very happy with Renault," Brown said.
"They've given us a reliable engine this year and so it's going well we're happy with the decision that we've made, we're very happy with Renault.” (gptoday.com)

"We have a very good relationship with them. I got my report on how next year's power unit is coming along and that's very encouraging.”
"I think we'll benefit from having two teams on the grid next year, so they'll be focused on ourselves and themselves, and excited to have a long term future with them."
Brown will be hoping McLaren are on their way back up the grid next season after a difficult few years both on and off the track.
