Fernando Alonso is thrilled to see Max Verstappen in action at the Nordschleife!
"You want to win the best races in the world and the most prestigious races in the world"
- Fernando Alonso
Asked in Baku what he thought about Verstappen’s decision to race in categories outside of Formula 1, the two-time world champion admitted: "It's more a question for him, but it's nice when you try different series in motorsport. You have to learn from the best. You go there, and there are drivers that have more experience than you.
They know different lines in wet, in inters, in dry, more strategies, procedures, or driver changes. There are a lot of things involved in a new adventure, and they have more experience than you. So it's nice to learn from zero.
Finally, he added: "I think you want to win the best races in the world and the most prestigious races in the world. Maybe for him, it's the 24 Hours of Nürburgring next year. I guess he has to do Le Mans, Sebring, or whatever is in his head, and the same with all the best races in the world."

Alonso enjoys Verstappen in endurance racing

Last May, when Verstappen made his first appearances on track at the Nordschleife in the Ferrari 296 GT3 for Emil Frey Racing, the Spanish champion had already commented on the four-time world champion’s desire to compete in categories outside of Formula 1.
Alonso, like Verstappen, has raced in several series beyond F1, including the WEC with Toyota, where he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice in 2018 and 2019, and the Indianapolis 500 with McLaren, coming close to victory before being forced to retire due to technical issues.

The four-time world champion is set to make his GT3 qualifying debut at the renowned “Green Hell,” with the session kicking off at 8:30 a.m. CET. He will then take part in his first race of the weekend at 12:30 p.m. CET.
Later in the day, Verstappen will share the Ferrari 296 behind the wheel with Chris Lulham. Lulham, like Verstappen, secured his A permit at the Nordschleife just two weeks ago, allowing him to compete in this weekend’s GT3 event.
