A filmmaker with a soft spot for Ronnie Peterson, Gilles Villeneuve, Mika Hakkinen and above all, Tazio Nuvolari and Ayrton Senna, is also a diehard Formula One fan since the age of 4 (mid-90's). An avid researcher of the past of Grand Prix Racing since before it was even named F1, and with a thirst for knowledge of the ins and outs of the actuality of the sport, as well as for the technical aspects that define it, is a member of GPblog since 2023, where he has put his love of racing to good use.
Johnny Herbert, who has been sidelined as an analyst by the FIA, cannot seem to get Max Verstappen out of his head. In yet another interview for a British betting company, the former ex-driver now argues that it is precisely Red Bull Racing's driver and his father, Jos, who instigate the 'Britsh Bias' talk.
Herbert hints in the interview that he has seen how Dutch F1 media and Dutch fans think with regards to him being biased toward British drivers and against drivers of a different nationality. How he believes that feeling persists in the Netherlands? According to him, two people are to blame for that: Max and Jos Verstappen. "The Verstappens keep intimating there’s a bias," he said.
"I keep reading about the supposed bias. I read that and then wonder, ‘So I can’t support a British driver because I’m British?’ I can’t support Lewis or George or Lando. It’s ridiculous."
'Dutch allowed to do what Brits are blamed for?'
Herbert then complains that he is spoken of negatively in the Netherlands. "But coming the other way is fine apparently as was the case in what happened with me. If you’re a Dutchman, you can sort of have a go at the Brits and say the Brits have got no real morals for how they are as race fans. It’s supposed to go both ways isn’t it," Herbert then wonders.
