Felipe Drugovich has responded to the possibility of him driving the other Aston Martin alongside double world champion Fernando Alonso at the Canadian Grand Prix. The only issue is that arguably the most famous race in the world is also taking place next week, overlapping with the Canadian Grand Prix: the 24 hours of Le Mans.
Excited about Le Mans, but 'anything can happen in life'
"I just think I am doing the best race weekend of the year, and I'm happy," Drugovich said to RACER when the possibility of him stepping up to Aston Martin in
Lance Stroll's stead at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve next week.
In a week, the Brazilian reserve is due to start the mythical race in representation of with Cadillac and Action Express Racing, but is there a chance that he could indeed make the F1 grid instead?
"There's a chance for everything in life; I don't know what's going to happen," said a rather cryptic Drugovich. "For the moment, I'm focused on this, and that's the approach I need to have. If I think about possibilities, I just go crazy and don't focus on anything. So I prefer to take this normally. Nothing has happened in the past two weeks."
What about Vandoorne?
Confirming the possibility that Stroll may have to sit out the race weekend in his home country, the Brazilian added: "They're (Aston Martin) speaking to me, but it looks 'as it stands' at the moment."
Stoffel Vandoorne, Aston Martin's other F1 reserve driver is set to start the Le Mans 24 hours in the #94 car, could he be a possibility to replacing Stroll? When asked if the British team had any other options aside from the Brazilian, Drugovich replied sternly: "It's just me."
