In a striking TV interview on Italian Sky Race Anatomy, former Ferrari race engineer and executive coordinator Luigi Mazzola raised serious concerns about Ferrari’s internal capabilities – even drawing attention to Lewis Hamilton’s remarks after the Canadian Grand Prix.
“Hamilton’s interview [after the Canadian Grand Prix] is sensational, you have to read it well. It talks about organisation, about mentality,” Mazzola began, stressing the importance of underlying team structure.
In a team that has been under the leadership of Frederic Vasseur for 2 years now, the Italian sees that Hamilton's arrival has been met with a team not yet built and where everything seems to be missing: "[Hamilton] has found himself in a team that needs to be rebuilt, as his father also said some time ago. Then he talks about these developments not coming, when we are in the tenth race now.”

Lewis Hamilton currently trails teammate Charles Leclerc by 25 points in the standings.

Ferrari in leadership limbo

“All this leaves me very perplexed, because from a team like Ferrari, you expect all the infrastructure to win, not that Hamilton arrives and says everything is missing.”
Mazzola then reasoned that a lack of championship winning mentality is inexcusable, and inferres that the seven-time world champion is beginning to see that something is amiss.
“Within the company, there should already be this mentality, and if it’s not there, it’s a worrying thing, very worrying. Obviously, around him [Hamilton], there is something that doesn’t add up.”
Ferrari are currently a long way off from McLaren in the Constructors' championship where it seemed this year they would be ready to fight for both titles. In the Drivers' standings both Hamilton and teammate Charles Leclerc are more than 90 points off Oscar Piastri's championship lead.
