Lewis Hamilton explained that Ferrari needs to reduce drag to be more competitive against the frontrunning teams after the Miami Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion had a difficult weekend in Florida. After finishing seventh in the Sprint, he crossed the line in the same position in Sunday’s Grand Prix, but moved up a place after his teammate Charles Leclerc received a 20-second time penalty.
Despite a challenging weekend, Hamilton is still more comfortable with the current generation of cars compared to the previous era. He told GPblog, among others: "Generally happy with it. I think, as I said, we just started on the wrong foot this weekend, it was very snappy on the way into corners and then massive understeer on the way in mid-corner, so that was not the balance that you would want. It was better for qualifying and then going into the race, but I wasn't able to really capitalize on it."
Looking ahead to the next weekend, Hamilton highlighted where the SF-26 needs to improve. He continued: "I'm looking forward to it, but, we need to see if we can find some..., cut some drag before the next race because on the straight line, we've got that deficit and so we've got to have a look into that."
Hamilton will skip the simulator in preparation for the Canadian GP
The Briton also explained that he
will not do simulator work for Montreal after it did not pay off for Miami either.
"I'm not gonna go on the simulator between now and the next race. I'll still go and hold meetings at the factory and stuff, but I'm just going to back away from it for a little bit and see. Because when we went to China, I had the best weekend without the sim."Make GPblog your preferred source on Google and see our content first in Google Discover and Google News.
