Spain's Maximo Quiles made another statement in Le Mans with an authoritative victory over the rest of the field, extending his championship lead in the Moto3 class to 56 points after just five rounds.
It was a wet morning in Le Mans and one which was certainly going to test the skills of the young Moto3 field. The race was shorted to 13 laps due to the conditions, but the shorter length did little to save the riders as half the field still slid out on the wet track.
Quiles took the holeshot at the opening corner and led from there on out despite some late pressure from Adrian Fernandez.
Championship contender Alvaro Carpe was one of the crashers and will be very disappointed not to score any points this weekend. David Munoz was another who crashed early and was unable to recover anything from the weekend.
Among the other crashers were Scott Ogden, Casey O'Gorman and Rico Salmela, though thankfully no riders were injured in the race. Eddie O'Shea had a very solid and brought home a career-best P9 finish.
