Colapinto victim of burglary during Lake Como holiday: ‘I hope whoever took it all enjoys it’

With Formula 1 already several days into its summer break, the drivers have taken the opportunity to recharge their batteries and spend a few weeks on holiday with their loved ones, ahead of the return to action at Zandvoort on 21 August, which will mark the start of the second half of the season.

For his holiday, the Argentine chose Italy, opting for one of the country’s best-known tourist destinations, Lake Como.

Through his social media channels, Colapinto made light of the incident, joking that he never expected Europeans to steal everything from a Latino and adding that whoever took his belongings probably would not enjoy the mate, the traditional South American drink particularly popular in his native Argentina: “Who would have thought that Europeans would steal everything from a Latino. I'm sure they won't like the mate."

In a later post, Colapinto revealed that his suitcases, clothes and mate kit disappeared while he was staying at the lake, adding that he hoped whoever took his belongings would ironically enjoy them: “Last photos with this stuff. I was at the lake and my suitcases, clothes and mate kit disappeared. I hope whoever took it all enjoys it.”

After a difficult 2025 season, Colapinto has already scored 19 points in the first half of this year, helped by a more competitive Alpine following the switch to Mercedes power units. By comparison, Pierre Gasly has collected 42 points, including a podium in Monaco after Isack Hadjar was stripped of his third-place finish.

In a recent interview on Formula 1’s Beyond The Grid podcast, Flavio Briatore spoke positively about Colapinto’s progress, explaining that the Argentine is integrating much better within the team and improving mentally, technically and in his relationship with those around him. Briatore also highlighted the work being done to help Colapinto cope with the pressure of Formula 1 and build his confidence, while stressing that he has no doubts about the young driver’s talent.
