Lewis Hamilton's experience at the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix was a culmination of mounting frustrations in his debut season with Ferrari. Finishing sixth—later promoted from seventh due to Max Verstappen's penalty—Hamilton described it as "one of the worst races" of his career.
The race began with Hamilton losing positions, and by lap nine, he was instructed to let teammate Charles Leclerc pass, a directive he followed, allowing Leclerc to move into fourth place. Despite his efforts, Hamilton struggled with the car's pace and was overtaken by the Sauber of Nico Hülkenberg, ultimately finishing behind both Leclerc and George Russell.

"Worst race of my career"

When asked about the pace of his Ferrari during the race and why he was not able to navigate the gap, the seven time world champion responded to media, including GPblog, with a short answer of, "I have no idea why it was so bad."
Hamilton didn't hold back, when asked, “So where do you go from here?”—a question intended to explore how the team might improve heading into the next race in Canada—Hamilton replied dryly: “Home.”
This performance starkly contrasts with Hamilton's previous successes at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where he shares the record for most wins (six) with Michael Schumacher.

Hamilton is not unhappy with his team's performance

Speaking after the race with Sky Sports, the Ferrari driver commented that it was not the fault of his team for his race result and that strategy did not play a negative part, "The team did a great job, strategy was great".
Finally, Hamilton commented on the reason for his short responses"I had a really bad day, I have nothing to say".
As the season progresses, Hamilton's frustrations reflect the broader difficulties Ferrari faces in returning to competitive form, with teammate Leclerc achieving more consistent results, recently including two back to back podium finishes.
