Did the aerodynamic changes work? Hamilton doesn't think so

From afar, it looked like the new aero rules had helped drivers drive closer together to those in front of them, but according to the World Champion, the changes made "no difference".

Last season, Lewis Hamilton was a loud voice in the need for the change to allow cars to follow closer. The change has happened, as F1 increased the dimensions of the rear wing and widened the front wings. But Hamilton insists these weren't helpful in Melbourne.

“It is still very hard. The only positive thing what we improved is the DRS effect. As soon as it opens, it’s a lot more powerful than last year but following is still a lot of turbulence," Hamilton told RaceFans.

During the race, Hamilton barely had a chance to race wheel-to-wheel with another driver but did have to drive through the backmarkers. He also experienced plenty of traffic during qualifying runs.
