Australian burger chain Grill’d seized the opportunity to launch a new collection after being accused of “sabotaging” Oscar Piastri with their “cursed burger.” For some context, after the Aussie's win at Zandvoort—which coincided with his teammate’s retirement and extended his championship lead to 34 points—the Australian restaurant launched a promotion encouraging customers to try the “Oscar Piastri 81 Burger” as “Piastri podiums.”
The promotion came into effect on the Monday following the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, the last podium secured this season by Piastri so far, which was followed by a series of disappointing results, including incidents in Baku and
Interlagos.
The restaurant
then secretly changed the promotion to “When Oscar Races,” sparking fans to go wild on social media, playfully accusing Grill’d of creating a “cursed burger.”
Grill’d, in a recent post shared on its Instagram page, decided to take the joke further by responding to the comments with another post:
"To everyone who believes in the "Curse", we'd like to apologise. To you, and to F1 fans everywhere."We never meant to create a burger so delicious it could change the course of F1 history. So yes, we're sorry. Sorry our burgers slap that hard.
"Sure, we can take a joke about a curse but let's be real, we'd never bet against a guy like Oscar Piastri. He's our homegrown Aussie hero, and we'll always be in his corner. Today, tomorrow, and forever your back, Oscar."
The restaurant ultimately seized the opportunity to launch the “Sorry Not Sorry” collection, the “apology merch no one asked for, but everyone’s talking about.”
Webber claims Piastri "he needs to find the strength to fight back"
Since the Dutch Grand Prix, Piastri has lost countless points in the standings, both against Max Verstappen—who now looks extremely threatening right behind him—and against his own teammate.
The Australian lost the championship lead, which he had held for a remarkable fifteen races this year, in Mexico, and then dropped a further 23 points in Brazil last weekend.
