Australian GP wants to admit fans: "Don't see why there couldn't be a crowd"

It was intended that the 2021 Formula 1 season would start 'as usual' with the Australian Grand Prix. Meanwhile, that race weekend has already been postponed to November. Despite the fact that the season opener does not take place in Melbourne, the organization of the Grand Prix also sees an advantage in this.

The organizers of the Melbourne Grand Prix are determined to keep the race going anyway, with or without fans. However, they do see the later date as an opportunity to make the event happen with an audience.

"We have 176 acres of outdoor space," Andrew Westacott, chairman of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation tells Speedcafe.com. "So I don't see why there couldn't be an audience as long as we use QR codes and make sure everything can be tracked."

However, it remains to be seen whether this picture can become a reality, given Australia's strict coronavirus measures. The Australian government recently announced that its borders must remain closed to travellers until the end of the year. It is not yet clear whether an exception will be made for Formula 1.
