Toro Rosso's
Pierre Gasly has said that his comments on the team radio after finishing fourth in Bahrain was
"just a joke" and nothing more, as the Frenchman simply thinks Honda deserve more credit for their work.
After Gasly surprisingly finished fourth in his Toro Rosso, he was heard on the radio saying
"now we can fight", which is exactly what
Fernando Alonso said after finishing fifth in Melbourne in the previous race.
The irony of the whole situation, of course, is that Alonso was referencing that
McLaren was finally able to fight after years of underperforming with Honda, and two weeks later a Honda-powered car finishes fourth, in front of both McLaren cars and one place higher than Alonso in Melbourne.
"It was just a little joke - that is it," said Gasly.
"I just think we need to give credit back to Honda.
"They had a really tough three years with McLaren and to finish fourth in our second race with them was just amazing.
Gasly then revealed he'd gotten a hard time from Spanish fans, which surprised him.
"Fernando is one of the best drivers in all time in F1, one of my idols.
"It was nothing related [to him personally] it was a comment for Honda because I think they deserve the credit."
