Mercedes continues to be the fastest this season after George Russell topped the first free practice session at the Japanese GP.
The British driver finished marginally ahead of his young teammate, Kimi Antonelli. The two McLarens, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, finished around a tenth behind after their heartbreaking double DNS in China two weeks ago.
Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished fifth and sixth respectively. Max Verstappen set the seventh quickest time, being around seven tenths behind the two Mercedes.
