A day ago, it was announced that Franco Colapinto will join Alpine from Williams. At the French team, the young driver will be the test and reserve driver. His Instagram driver however said otherwise for some time after the transfer was announced.

Did Colapinto get ahead of himself?

Franco Colapinto left a great impression with his debut at Williams, after he replaced Logan Sargeant, even as he made a few mistakes during the latter part of the year. Still, the Argentine driver was close to experienced driver Alexander Albon, but by the time he got the opportunity, it was already announced that Carlos Sainz will join the team entering the 2025 season.
Colapinto therefore had to look at other opportunities. He was also rumoured to be a candidate for a seat within the Red Bull family, but that did not materialise. The Argentinian driver did end up switching teams however, as he will be a test and reserve driver at Alpine, not at Williams.
It was already rumoured that Jack Doohan is now under heavy pressure to perform in order not to be replaced mid-season. On Instagram, Colapinto's bio briefly wrote: "Formula 1 driver for Alpine F1 Team". Since then, this has been changed, and now only the Argentinian flag remains, whether the first choice description was intentional or not.
