Romain Grosjean got disqualified from the Italian Grand Prix for running with an illegal floor after Renault handed in a complaint, but the FIA already knew about the illegal, Motorsport have reported.
The Italian Grand Prix was chaotic enough as it was, but Renault and Haas gave a nice little aftershock in the hours after the dust had settled at Monza. The French team handed in a complaint against Haas, who were running with an illegal floor according to them, and the FIA complied, disqualifying Grosjean and thus bumping Carlos Sainz up a place for Renault.
The FIA made rules for the floors during the summer break, Motorsport reported, and as it turned out, the new rules made Haas's floors illegal. The American team wanted dispensation until Singapore, but the FIA rejected their request, meaning Haas would be screwed if any team would hand in a complaint.
A complaint like this hadn't happened since 2012 when Lotus did it, but it proved successful for Renault. They got extra points, and took some away from Haas, which is a win-win for them.
