Ferrari set to revive its past with classic-inspired Monza livery

Ferrari has made special designs a familiar feature of its home race in recent seasons, using the Italian Grand Prix to celebrate different chapters of the marque's history. Since 2022, with the exception of 2024, the Maranello-based team has brought distinctive liveries and matching merchandise to Monza, often drawing inspiration from iconic colours and past successes.

The trend began in 2022, when yellow and black details were added to the F1-75 to celebrate Ferrari's 75th anniversary and Monza's centenary. The 'Giallo Modena' theme extended beyond the car, with both drivers also sporting specially designed race suits and helmets. In 2023, attention turned to Ferrari's endurance racing success, as the SF-23 featured yellow and black elements inspired by the 499P following the manufacturer's overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

After opting against a comparable special livery in 2024, Ferrari revived the tradition in emphatic fashion last season. The SF-25 was transformed with a retro design inspired by the legendary 312T, including a white engine cover, vintage-style numbers and wheel covers. The tribute marked 50 years since Niki Lauda claimed his first Formula 1 world title with Ferrari in 1975.

The trend is set to continue at this year's edition, with Ferrari preparing to unveil another classic-inspired livery in front of its home crowd. Although the design has yet to be officially confirmed, it could take inspiration from the 1996 Ferrari F310, the first car Michael Schumacher raced during his debut season in red.

The significance of such a tribute would be particularly fitting, with 2026 marking 30 years since Michael Schumacher joined Ferrari. Monza also holds a special place in the story of his first season with the Scuderia, as the German won the 1996 Italian Grand Prix at the wheel of the F310, one of his three victories that year.

The F310 featured a distinctive look compared to later Ferrari cars, combining a deeper shade of red with extensive black and white elements across the bodywork. Black was particularly prominent on the front and rear wings, as well as around the sidepods and lower sections of the car, while gold wheels completed one of the most recognisable Ferrari designs of the 1990s.

Ferrari recently dropped another hint on its social media channels, sharing a post captioned "Home is calling". The teaser featured the black Prancing Horse against a red background, immediately fuelling speculation among fans in the comments about what the team could be preparing for Monza.
