Ferrari may be creating an advantage over Mercedes by likely holding an additional test with a modified power unit. This should, for example, be ideal for high-speed circuits.
GPblog understands that Ferrari is currently exploring options to hold a so-called filming day in April, which the team can run for 200 kilometers. That test would take place at the Monza circuit, one of the fastest tracks on the Formula 1 calendar. An exact date is not known.
In advance, the race in Italy later this year looks to be a major challenge for the teams. Due to the long straights, there is hardly any time to recharge the battery. That’s partly why Ferrari wants to try a different power unit than the one used during the recent races in Australia and China.
This engine will sacrifice some low-end power, in order to create more superclipping on the straights.

Ferrari is trailing Mercedes

In April, Formula 1 will not be in action, following the cancellation of the Grands Prix in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Ferrari is therefore using the enforced break to try to close the gap to Mercedes.
Looking at the first races of the season, the Scuderia are mainly behind the German outfit in terms of engine performance.
Nevertheless, Charles Leclerc (in Melbourne) and Lewis Hamilton (in Shanghai) have already made it to the podium.

Leclerc hits back at ‘artificial’ 2026 F1 claims after epic Hamilton battle

With so much hinging on battery levels and deployment in F1 2026, racing has had something of a 'yo-yo' effect in terms of overtaking, with some drivers, including Max Verstappen, likening the new rules to something out of 'Mario Kart.'
Charles Leclerc, however, has a slightly different view after his thrilling battle for the last podium position with teammate Lewis Hamilton, instead arguing the new rules have made the 2026 cars "actually quite fun" in race trim.
