A disappointing weekend for
Aston Martin as
Fernando Alonso was not among the top four once during his home race. Alonso did not tolerate the fact that
Mercedes are now ahead of his team in the championship, believing that he and his team will strike back in Canada.
Alonso eager to battle Mercedes
The Spaniard said this after the Barcelona race, where Mercedes proved to be a lot stronger than
Ferrari and
Aston Martin.
Lewis Hamilton and
George Russell finished P2 and P3. They could not match
Max Verstappen, but they did beat
Red Bull Racing's
Sergio Perez, who had to start from P11. The team has now passed Aston Martin in the championship.
AS asked if Alonso is worried about strong Mercedes: "
It's only one race... In Canada, we demolished them. I leave here happy because qualifying was our pain point. I came back well from my starting spot [...] We limited the damage. Mercedes made gains among the constructors, but we have outrun Ferrari. I'm happy with that."
