Sending F1 fans on social media into something of a frenzy, Max Verstappen and Toto Wolff have been photographed together for the second year in a row in Sardinia. While the meeting is unlikely to be anything other than a fun get-together, with both Verstappen and Wolff fond of the Italian island, more details have been revealed.

Similarly to the last time the pair were spotted in Sardinia, speculation surrounding Verstappen's F1 future is rife heading into the summer break - with links to McLaren in particular a big talking point. In 2025, it was Mercedes most closely linked to the Dutchman, with the four-time world champion clarifying that the pair's encounter was nothing out of the ordinary: "I love Sardinia, he loves Sardinia. I waved at him, we had lunch together and the kids played together. When you're there, you talk about everything except Formula 1. You can have many pleasant conversations with him and Susie [Wolff]."

While Wolff has recently pondered over Verstappen becoming Kimi Antonelli's teammate one day in an interview with Sky Sports Germany, there is no indication that the pair's 2026 trip is any different to the last. In fact, on Tuesday, Verstappen's plane flew from Nice to Sardinia, where Verstappen’s yacht Unleash the Lion was moored. From there, the aircraft travelled to Red Bull’s headquarters in Salzburg and departed back to Nice a few hours later.

It is possible that Verstappen was first dropped off with his family on the Italian island, after which his manager Raymond Vermeulen continued on to Salzburg. However, nothing can be officially confirmed. What is clear is that Verstappen is currently enjoying a holiday with his family.

Elsewhere, former F1 designer and Jordan technical director Gary Anderson has urged Lewis Hamilton to own up to his recent mistakes instead of pointing the finger at others. Anderson's comments come after Hamilton picked up two penalties during the Hungarian GP weekend.

The first came in Qualifying, a three-place grid penalty for impeding Oscar Piastri that dropped him from P2 to P5, while the second came during the race in the form of a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane. This dropped Hamilton a place behind his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc into P5.

Writing in his column for The Telegraph, Anderson expressed surprise over Hamilton's recent errors, questioning whether they could be put down to merely bad luck, or an underlying issue. Anderson said: "I have to say that I am surprised that, with all his experience, Hamilton is making these mistakes. It is difficult to say why exactly he is making them. Sometimes it is just a run of bad luck and the driver wonders why they are happening. Other times there is something deeper going on.

Anderson was ultimately disappointed with the seven-time world champion, concluding with: "If I go back to all Hamilton's problems, there is a reason for nearly everything and the biggest thing at the moment is that I do not get the impression that he is taking responsibility for it. He is trying to find someone else to blame. That is disappointing."
