From Aston Martin's Adrian Newey admitting he went through a difficult period with his health to Lewis Hamilton unveiling his new look for the British Grand Prix, here are the biggest Formula 1 stories from June 30. Formula One is gearing up for this weekend's British Grand Prix after George Russell returned to winning ways in Austria on Sunday, holding off the challenge of Max Verstappen and his teammate and championship leader Kimi Antonelli.
Adrian Newey revealed he had to manage a balance between his own personal wellbeing and work, but that his condition has improved after a recent difficult period with his health.
Newey made his first F1 paddock appearance since the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend last month. Speaking about his health in an episode of Aston Martin's Undercut, the iconic British designer admitted he had not been at full strength for some time and has had to manage his workload more carefully.
"I was not 100 per cent. I'm OK now, but it's been a difficult period. As I said earlier, it never rains but it pours. In truth, I was not 100 per cent last year. I had to balance health and work much more carefully. The team handled it incredibly well. I kept a very good relationship with the engineers and I don't feel it caused too much of a blip. That's a testament to how adaptable and supportive everyone here is."
The seven-time world champion will add an extra touch of yellow for his home weekend at Silverstone, with the Ferrari driver set to wear yellow gloves, shoes and a matching cap alongside his iconic yellow helmet design.
Hamilton has
won his home race nine times and will be going for his tenth and first for Ferrari this weekend. Speaking about his design, Hamilton said he felt like it was the perfect occasion to bring more yellow into his race gear.
"We got the British Grand Prix, and obviously, when I joined Ferrari, I went back to my yellow helmet colour. And so, up until now, I've had a red cap, and I really wanted to find a way of incorporating the yellow back into some of the elements like my gloves and particularly my cap. Which, yes, last year we did a yellow gloves and a yellow boot. But we hadn't done a cap yet. I thought this would be a great celebration of my heritage, which is yellow and it also is the same for Ferrari."
