From Max Verstappen providing an update on his immediate future to Lewis Hamilton offering a cheeky response to growing calls for his retirement, we bring you the biggest stories in Formula 1 today, with the Canadian Grand Prix on the horizon.
Media day for the Canadian Grand Prix took centre stage, with drivers airing their thoughts and expectations on several topics in the lead-up to the Quebec event. Among those who spoke to the media were Verstappen and Hamilton, who shared their views on a range of issues ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend.

Hamilton addresses retirement talks

Hamilton dismissed growing speculation about his future at Scuderia Ferrari, jokingly taking aim at those he believes are “trying to retire” him. The seven-time world champion has recently been the subject of widespread speculation, with discussions around the possibility of the Ferrari outfit replacing him or even him walking away from the sport amid a challenging stint with the Maranello team.
However, speaking at the Canadian Grand Prix press conference on Thursday, the Briton shut down the rumours when asked if he had clarity over his plans for the 2027 season. “Yeah, I’m still under contract, so everything is 100% clear to me,” Hamilton responded.

Doubling down on his stance, the 41-year-old added that he remains focused and highly motivated in his pursuit of success with Ferrari. “I’m still focused, I’m still motivated, I still love what I do with all my heart. I’m going to be here for quite some time, so get used to it,” he added.

Verstappen wants to stay in F1

Verstappen also offered a fresh hint about his future in Formula 1 following the FIA’s recent confirmation of changes to the sport’s 2027 technical regulations.
In the aftermath of the Miami Grand Prix, the FIA announced that proposed adjustments to the 2027 engine rules had been agreed in principle after an online meeting involving team principals, FOM, and power unit manufacturers. The proposals include an increase of around 50kW in internal combustion engine power via higher fuel flow, alongside a reduction of roughly 50kW in ERS deployment, shifting the balance to an estimated 60–40 split in favour of the internal combustion engine.

The changes have been introduced amid growing criticism of the current regulations from within the paddock, with Verstappen among those who have previously voiced concerns. Speaking during the Canadian Grand Prix media day, and in response to GPblog and other outlets, the Red Bull driver welcomed the direction of the revisions and suggested they align with what he had hoped to see. Verstappen also indicated that the changes could influence his decision to continue in the sport.
