Formula 1 photographer Peter van Egmond (68) dies

Sad news from the world of Formula 1: Peter van Egmond has passed away at the age of 68. Van Egmond was a familiar and beloved figure in the F1 paddock, where he worked as a photographer for many decades.

Peter van Egmond, a veteran of Formula 1 photography, dedicated decades to capturing the sport’s most iconic moments. Over his career, he attended more than 550 races and was also a photographer for Red Bull Racing. In 2024, he revealed that he was battling an incurable illness, which prevented him from working the previous season. Despite his illness, he made an appearance at the Brazilian Grand Prix, where he witnessed Max Verstappen’s unforgettable victory.

During a broadcast on Viaplay, Van Egmond confirmed that he was taking a step back from his work. Both Verstappen and team principal Christian Horner expressed their admiration for the beloved photographer. Verstappen, in particular, spoke warmly of Van Egmond’s presence at the Brazilian race, saying, "That is a race I will never forget, and I’m really happy Peter could be there."
