The Formula 1 season continues today at the Circuit of the Americas with the United States Grand Prix. Follow the first practice session live with GPblog here!
After a weekend without Formula 1, the 2026 campaign continues in Austin, Texas, as the American triple-header gets underway. After COTA, the championship will travel to Mexico City and Sao Paulo. Unlike last year, the United States Grand Prix will not feature a Sprint, meaning FP1 will not be the only practice session of the weekend.
Entering this weekend, Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing are on a two-race winning stream. The Dutchman won in Malaysia and Singapore as well. Ferrari also showed improvements over the past races.
Meanwhile, in the championship standings, Kimi Antonelli can secure his first drivers' title this weekend. The young Italian is currently 102 points ahead of George Russell and 111 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes driver needs to extend his lead over his closest rivals to 125 points to claim his first title.

US fans can once again cheer on American driver in FP1

Colton Herta will replace Sergio Perez during the first session of the weekend. The American said: "Driving the MAC-26 in front of the American fans at COTA is going to be special. I have great memories at this track – winning my first IndyCar race here back in 2019 was a huge moment in my career, so stepping into an F1 car on this layout feels like coming full circle.
"I’ve built up a good rhythm with the team through my previous FP1 runs in Barcelona, Budapest, and Monza, so my goal for Friday morning is straightforward: execute the test program cleanly, help the engineers gather good data on the setup, and hand the car back to Checo with some useful feedback to support the team for the rest of the weekend," he added.
