Zak Brown has stated that McLaren's free-to-race unwritten ruleset is not going anywhere for the remainder of 2025. The American believes that it's up to his drivers to race out on track, as the team already holds a huge constructors' championship lead of over 230 points. Together this season,
Lando Norris and
Oscar Piastri have won nine of the 12 races.
Zak Brown explained in Silverstone how McLaren is handling the situation where Norris and Piastri find themselves. The two drivers often battle each other for the win, but no clear number one has been designated within the team.
"It's the same rules. Race each other hard, race each other clean, and try and get as many points on the board for the team. Then it's up to them to decide who is in front of who."
Brown prepared for battle: 'May the best man win!'
He continued, reinforcing his philosophy: "I think the relationship they have is fantastic. We've put a lot of time and effort into building our team and having chemistry within the team, and that starts with the drivers. I think you saw how they handled Canada, how they've conducted themselves, and I see no reason why they can't have a big battle all the way to the end.
"May the best man win, and I'm sure they'll shake hands and congratulate each other. Obviously, both of them want to win, but I see no reason why, knowing the personalities and the way they race, that they can't remain very good teammates."
Is Verstappen almost out of world championship running?
Is there any possibility that Max Verstappen still has a chance to battle for his fifth consecutive world title? The Ducthman himself is not so sure, and has batted off any questions about it.
Speculation continues to swirl about a supposed move to Mercedes,
with Martin Brundle the latest to analyse the situation.
