George Russell has waxed lyrical over Jannik Sinner's Wimbledon victory on social media after the Mercedes driver attended Sunday's final. Russell was present at Centre Court with his partner Carmen Montero Mundt to watch the men's singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
The match was blockbuster and was eventually won by Sinner after an absorbing contest.
The Italian is a huge F1 fan and is known officially as a 'Friend of F1', meaning that he supports promotion of the sport through fan engagement.
After winning the tournament, Sinner comically stated: "Special thanks to my brother because there’s no Formula 1 race this weekend. That’s why he’s here.”
Russell attended the event with his partner Carmen, clearly enjoying the match.
Where does George Russell's F1 future lie?
Attending the event will doubtlessly be a welcome break from Russell away from the F1 world. He gets back in the car in a few weeks time for the Belgian Grand Prix weekend at Spa.
Russell has not yet publicly signed a contract for the 2026 season. The Mercedes driver won the Canadian Grand Prix and sits fourth in the world drivers' standings, but swirling rumours suggest that
Max Verstappen may make the switch from Red Bull to the Silver Arrows.
