Esteban Ocon has weighed in on the new F1 film starring Brad Pitt, which premiered yesterday. While sharing his thoughts, the Haas driver unintentionally revealed key plot points. Warning: This article contains a spoiler about how the film ends!
On Wednesday evening, all Formula 1 drivers were invited to the premiere of F1, the new American film about the sport, produced in part by Lewis Hamilton. Max Verstappen was notably absent, despite receiving an invitation. Earlier that day, Nico Hülkenberg and Carlos Sainz had already spoken positively about the film, and Esteban Ocon also shared that he enjoyed it.
"I think the video is almost super impressive," Ocon responded in a conversation with GPblog and others. "The scenes with them driving the cars, I think that's fantastic. That's something we've never seen before. I think there were some great racing scenes, for example, when there were good battles down the inside and stuff like that. Overall, it was a great movie.
"I think at some point there were things that didn't really make too much sense for us as drivers being inside the paddock every time and racing. But I really see where Lewis has put his touch to manage to try and make everything as realistic as possible."
Then, Ocon spilled the beans about the movie's plot. "And what I found really good is that last race, they suddenly just don't fly and win the race. But it's because of something happening in the race, putting the red flag, them not being in Q3 and then having the new tyres."
The Haas driver then apologised to the journalists present after he was told that no one else had seen the F1 film yet.

Ocon apologises for the spoiler

The Haas driver finds the new F1 movie very realistic, praising Lewis Hamilton for his impact as executive producer. "Yeah, I'm not going to get too into detail. I'm sorry, I thought you guys had seen it. I know we have seen it. I think in some of the parts, you can really feel that Lewis (Hamilton) has pushed it to keep it super realistic. But some parts needed to make it a little bit more Hollywood, which is obviously open to all the public and needs to be catching the eye of everyone.
"For us, there are a few things that I would have liked, to be more racing focused and maybe a bit less crashing at points and stuff like that, and more racing. But I think overall it's still by far the best racing movie of all time and I feature in it racing, but I'm glad I didn't have too many incidents with Sonny Hayes," he joked, referring to Brad Pitt's character. A veteran returning F1 driver.
The former Alpine driver continued praising the movie for its forward steps. One he highlights is diversity and the range of people featured in the film.
"It's great that obviously there is a lot of diversity in the movie. They really push the aspects of that, showing that we are willing to push the boundaries and there is space for everyone in all the different roles in Formula One, which is good.
"There's a female mechanic doing pit stops, which is actually great. And she's a big part of the winning at one point. I'm spoiling, sorry guys! But I like spoilers anyway. Tom Holland always spoils the new Spider-Man. It wasn't him apparently, but all good," Ocon joked again.
