Pierre Gasly has reacted to his shock Pole Position at the Italian GP, on the very weekend the Alpine driver lost his P3 at the Monaco GP from three months prior.
Alpine's Italian GP weekend had got off to an explosive start following Executive Advisor Flavio Briatore's accusations of a McLaren 'link' to a judge on the Court of Appeal panel that reinstated Red Bull's Isack Hadjar's Monaco podium, which saw Gasly demoted to P7.
Gasly, who famously secured his only F1 victory at Monza in 2020, has reflected on securing his first Pole Position in the sport, and Alpine's first since 2009. Speaking to GPblog and others, Gasly said: "Quite a lot of emotions. So no, I'm I'm just extremely happy for the whole team. I'm extremely happy with our performance. It's been nine years. I'm in Formula 1, I'm trying to, you know, give my best absolutely every single weekend, and, it's not every time we we get a car, to fight for pole position, and, today was the case."
"And, yeah, I'm really, really happy, really proud, to have seized this chance and and make it work. So it was a a heck of a lap. We've been on it since the first lap in Q1. It's been feeling good. And, yeah, nine years waiting for that moment, that feeling. I got my first win in here in Monza, and, now I get my first Pole Position. So definitely a special place to me."

The emotion of the weekend, and Pole Position, may well have got to the Frenchman, who was quick to apologise for swearing during the post-Qualifying press conference - the Alpine driver jokingly used the phrase "**** off" when discussing a chess game he had been playing against P2's George Russell.
Gasly is not the only driver to have worried about facing some sort of punishment over swearing - it was a similar slip of the tongue to Kimi Antonelli's faux pas on Friday.
On whether he could have expected to secure Pole Position, Gasly said: "I mean, Monza is a bit of a unique track. It's we know it, but I mean, no. It definitely exceeded all all our expectations. But since this morning, I think the pace has been better. We managed to make a good step, you know, from P3 to to quali, and I think slightly bigger than than the other guys around us. And, yeah, straight from Q1, you know, we're a bit surprised to see us up there."
