Dunne misses out on victory to championship rival after fairytale F1 debut, then gets disqualified

After his great F1 debut that caught the eye of many during FP1 of the Austrian Grand Prix, Alex Dunne finished only in second place, behind MP Motorsport's Richard Verschoor.

The Dutchman already reported over the team radio he is more worried about him than Victor Martins, but his pace was good enough to keep the McLaren talent behind.

With that, he also extended his lead in the championship, as he now leads 6 points ahead of Dunne in the drivers' standings.

The Irishman had an eventful feature race, as he made contact with a couple drivers: with Cordeel after the start, and then when overtaking Martins into Turn 4. The first incident was noted by the stewards and Dunne apologised over the radio, but no verdict came in until the chequered flag was waved.

If Dunne would get a 10-second time penalty, he would be relegated to P3.

Martins, 2024 F3 champion Leonardo Fornaroli and winner of yesterday's Sprint, Pepe Martí, battled hard to finish on the podium today.

On Lap 35, the Spaniard also made contact with the French driver into Turn 4, and as a result, the Invicta Racing driver could get up to P3. Moreover, Martí received a 10-second penalty by the stewards. The Campos driver therefore finished in seventh place.

After Dunne got disqualified, Jak Crawford completed the podium.

After being involved in a scary incident during the Sprint on Saturday, the Red Bull talent who is set to make his FP1 debut in Silverstone, finished outside of the points in P12.

On the final lap, he was also involved in an incident with Oliver Goethe, that lead to the latter flying across the track in Turn 3. The German said over the team radio that Lindblad moved too late.

The Briton also received a 10-second time penalty by the stewards for the incident.
