Many consider Red Bull Racing's decision to sign Sergio Perez a good move, but not everyone thinks that way. Chris Medland writes on Racer.com why he has doubts about this move.

Doubts about Red Bull's choice for Perez

"I’ve got to admit, I’m scratching my head a bit at the Red Bull driver decision. I mean, I get it on one hand. Sergio Perez is the best F1 driver currently available in terms of recent performances, and the team had a seat it was unsure about. But Red Bull has not been a team that takes the best driver available since 2007. It’s a team that takes the best driver it has developed in its junior outfit of Toro Rosso/AlphaTauri," Medland said.
This is the first time for a long time Red Bull don't trust their own youth system. A youth system that has produced good results with the likes of Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo. But Medland suggests the next generation might be hampered by this move.
"There’s going to be short-term gain, but by going completely against its previous ethos it remains to be seen if there’s long-term ramifications at Red Bull," Medland said.
