Doornbos: "Max may have asked a little too much of his tyres"

Robert Doornbos thinks the DAS system could have made the difference on Saturday. According to the former driver, the system has helped Mercedes to record another pole position.

“That just makes the difference,” says Doornbos about the DAS system after qualifying on Ziggo Sport. “Then you have that DAS system again. Then Mercedes has it just a little better under control. ” Doornbos saw the system used regularly by Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

Doornbos thinks that Max Verstappen used too much of his tyres too early on Saturday while Mercedes saved them for the last sector in the lap. "Nobody knows what the tyre wear will be like tomorrow," he concludes. It promises to be a particularly cold Grand Prix at the Nurburgring. The temperature barely exceeds ten degrees Celsius and rain is always lurking in the Eifel.
