Doornbos: "He has changed everything and nothing works, then you have a problem"

Max Verstappen was visibly disappointed after qualifying at Monza. Not only was he behind Mercedes, but he also had to acknowledge his superior in a McLaren and a Racing Point. The frustration that he lost sight of the world title becomes visible, Robert Doornbos understands.
"Before the season it was of course the intention to take up the fight with Mercedes and I thought he found his position in that too. In the end, six podiums in a row, on different circuits. In itself a crazy season, but the dot on the horizon was just that world title, but it is now out of sight," says the Ziggo Sport analyst.

Solution still a long way off for Red Bull

What will be of particular concern to Verstappen and Red Bull Racing is that no unambiguous solution to the problems can be identified. On a circuit like Monza, power differences may be quickly pointed out, but the balance in the car was also hard to find and changes to the chassis didn't help.
"Talks will now be held with Honda. There are, of course, possibilities for tweaking the engine before 2021, but what do they still have in the pipeline? On a power circuit like Monza you have to focus on that, but the chassis is also too nervous at the rear. It has changed everything and nothing works, then you have a problem."
