Pierre Gasly of Alpha Tauri will start tomorrow on the fifth row of the grid. In the final qualifying session he didn't make it above tenth, but asked his team if he had suffered any damage after having crossed a kerb in Q2.
He explains this in an interview with Sky Sports after qualifying. "Apparently I didn't have any damage, but we're going to check again later and tonight. In Q2 I was very happy with my lap, Q3 was a lot harder and especially the first run. The second run was a reasonable lap, but the others were just a bit faster than we were this afternoon."

Renaults and McLarens faster than this morning

"I think Renault drivers have really increased their speed today. The same was true for the McLarens. They have clearly taken a step up compared to yesterday and this morning. That is particularly interesting this weekend, because party modes are now banned. We need to analyse whether we can do better in the races that follow."
"But yes, I will start from tenth place tomorrow and that is a reasonable result. I'm certainly looking forward to it," the young Frenchman concludes.
