Franco Colapinto has been summoned to the stewards after a Barcelona Grand Prix where he took a respectable eighth place finish for Alpine. The Argentinian driver took advantage of late DNFs for Kimi Antonelli and Charles Leclerc to jump up from 10th to 8th place at the chequered flag, finishing behind his Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly.
However, he has some explaining to do, after he was summoned by the stewards for allegedly failing to slow under a single yellow flag. Any time penalty could be damaging for Colapinto who finished just over two seconds ahead of Liam Lawson in the Racing Bulls. Arvid Lindblad was a further five seconds back on his teammate Lawson.
Both Williams drivers summoned to stewards
On top of Colapinto, the Williams pair of Alex Albon and
Carlos Sainz have also been summoned by the stewards. Both drivers are under investigation by the stewards for start procedure infringements.
According to the stewards’ document, both Williams cars were alleged to have breached Article B5.5.5 of the F1 regulations. That Article mandates that all team personnel must leave the grid, along with any equipment, ahead of the 15 second signal.
It compiles a difficult day for the Williams pair who were well off the pace and out of contention for the points positions. Carlos Sainz finished two laps down on the
race winner Hamilton in 12th position. Albon meanwhile was forced into the pits when his Formula One management-provided camera came loose.
This forced him into the pits as a safety consideration and he was sent back into the race, but lost several laps in the process, rendering the remainder of his running as a test session. Between them, Williams have just 11 points on the board across the first seven races and are eighth in the constructors' championship standings.
