Carlos Sainz on Max Verstappen relationship: "We were very competitive"

Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen raced alongside each other at Toro Rosso and the two clashed on multiple occasions. Both drivers have gone on to mature and prove themselves and Sainz has reflected on his relationship with the Dutchman and what went wrong.

“We were very competitive in our first year and you get that quickly," Sainz said to Motorsport.com. "Moments of tension are part of a Formula 1 team, something like that is normal for two fast drivers.

The two have put their past behind them and now are actually friends.

"To be honest, Max is now one of the guys that I deal with most outside of the paddock," said Sainz.

Verstappen and Sainz have both shown their maturity and will hope to get some strong results in 2020.
