In 2020, Williams failed to capture a single point. This season they have 23. Only Alfa Romeo and Haas are doing less. Based on the results of the recent past it is hard to imagine that Williams, one of the most iconic F1 teams, will quickly catch up with the top teams.

Ambitions are huge

Still, the ambitions are big. Very big even. Within ten years Williams wants to be world champion again. An ambitious plan, admits CEO Jost Capito in conversation with The Race. "“We are really serious about it. We think about the next 10 years. We are looking how does Formula 1 look like in the 30s? And then based on this, we break this down. What does it mean for the next five years? What does it mean for the next two years? And what does it mean until the end of 21?" There will be new rules and probably new teams.

"It's possible, not impossible," Capito then responded when asked if a title is even possible without being a factory team. Still, there are rumours that Williams is also considering an exclusive partnership. The name of Volkswagen is mentioned more and more lately. Of course, the link with Williams is easily made because Capito was Volkswagen's sporting director in the WRC rally championship for many years.

“There are different ways and you have to see what kind of opportunities come up,” Capito says of a deal with Volkswagen. In any case, Williams is very serious about being number one again.
