Following the pitlane incident with Andrea Kimi Antonelli that derailed his - until that point - solid sprint race, Max Verstappen defended his pitcrew and whilst he criticised the mistake, he managed to put it behind him rather quickly, something Jenson Button appreciates. With the emotions running as high as they do inside a cockpit, and out of it as well, Verstappen managed to keep his composure after a Red Bull unsafe release destroyed his chances at a podium during the sprint race in Miami.
Speaking to Dutch media, including GPblog, Verstappen reacted to the incident acknowledging it happened, only to then focus on the race.
“There’s nothing you can change about it now. You just have to look ahead. That was not ideal, but the qualifying was most important. That’s where you can score the most points tomorrow,”
Verstappen acts exactly as you would need a champion to do so
That reaction, is precisely what former world champion, lauded of Verstappen during Sky Sports' broadcast.
"I think it's funny listening to Max, because obviously on the radio, when things don't go your way, you know, you can bite back at the team a little bit. But out of the car, Max is unbelievably relaxed when things go wrong."
"He's like, 'this went wrong, we're gonna fix it. We're gonna move forward'. And that's exactly what you need from a four-time world champion, because we do all make mistakes."
"And obviously with Wheatley not there, someone else is in the position, that it's a high stress position that person is under, went to release the car out of the pits and he got it wrong this time. I don't think he'll do it again."
