After breaking his collarbone during the British Grand Prix weekend, Maximo Quiles won the Moto3 Aragon Grand Prix. David Almansa finished second, while Marco Morelli completed the podium today.
After Morelli made a mistake and Brian Uriarte had to serve a long-lap penalty at MotorLand Aragon, it initially looked like the Moto3 race would turn into a three-way fight for victory between Almansa, Quiles, and Alvaro Carpe at the Spanish circuit, but both riders were determined to catch the leading group.
Morelli managed to catch the leading group by Lap 10, but the pace was too fast for the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider.
Quiles stayed behind Almansa for several laps, but on Lap 11, he made his move for the lead into Turn 1. A lap later, Carpe also went past the Intact GP rider, but Almansa fought back hard in the first sector to regain second place from the KTM rider.
After a mistake with five laps to go, Almansa took the lead once again, and all four riders then bunched up into the first corner. Quiles regained the lead and managed to pull away from his three rivals, who continued to battle through several corners. In the end, Quiles crossed the finish line in first place ahead of Almansa and his teammate Morelli.

Thanks to his seventh victory of the season, Quiles also extended his lead in the riders' standings. He is now 97 points ahead of Carpe.
