Brown sees potential in Formula E: 'Had to be sure first'

McLaren has signed an option to compete in Formula E in the 2022/2023 season. This does not make the participation of the illustrious team a certainty, but Zak Brown is very enthusiastic.
Formula E has worked hard in recent years to grow as a sport, and with the arrival of Porsche and Mercedes, the number of manufacturers in the electric motorsport class is also growing. In 2022, the legendary name of McLaren could be added to that list, now that McLaren has taken an option on that season.

McLaren to Formula E

The main consideration for McLaren, proved to be the budget cap in Formula 1, but also in Formula E. ''The budget cap is important for us, because we don't have the budget like BMW, Mercedes or Porsche. If teams keep raising the bar, we won't be able to keep up every time. So we had to be sure that that bar was not going to move,'' Brown told Autosport.com.
Formula E is a competitive class, in which McLaren hopes to compete for the title. ''I'm very happy with the figures I'm hearing, but there's still some work to be done before we will officially sign. What I cannot do is step into a championship that may change budgets'', concludes Brown.
