Fernando Alonso’s season came to an end at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and with it his F1 career but Ross Brawn has spoken out about how the Spaniard “was never in the right team at the right time."
Alonso has been plagued by reliability issues in recent years leading him to pursue other motorsport titles, including the Indy 500 and Le Mans both part of the triple crown.
“I think Fernando has not earned as much as his talent deserved, partly because he never seemed to be on the right team at the right time, but he always stood his ground and assumed his responsibilities.” Said Brawn speaking to AS.
“We will miss him, especially his teammates and rivals, since everyone, especially the best ones, knows how important it is to have a worthy opponent in front of them.
“That's what led Hamilton and Vettel to do a kind of honour guard in Abu Dhabi after finishing the race.”

Alonso won both his World titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006 but pushed Sebastian Vettel close in 2012 and 2013 whilst at Ferrari and Brawn acknowledged Alonso’s battles with both Vettel and Hamilton saying: “The battles between Fernando and the other two champions were frequent, but there respect and emotion surpassed everything.”
