Valtteri Bottas has rued the mistakes he made during the final qualifying session of the Canadian Grand Prix at which he went on to finish fourth after starting in sixth place.
Bottas at one point looked like he would be the leading Mercedes after Lewis Hamilton crashed out of FP2 but the Finn was unable to make a mark in qualifying as he started sixth on the grid after a troubled Q3. He went on to make up two places in the race to finish fourth and a late pit stop allowed him to chase down the fastest lap which he took in the closing stages.
Bottas revealed he was confident going into the weekend but admitted the mistakes in Q3 cost him.
"I was really confident but I made some mistakes in Q3 and that cost me quite a lot of points," Bottas said as quoted by Iltalehti newspaper.
"I can be happy with fourth as I made a couple of places and got the extra point for the fastest lap.

"But I can't really afford weekends like that if I want to fight for the championship."
Bottas remains second in the Drivers' Championship but fell further behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton after the Brit won his fifth race of the season.
