Audi confirm Jonathan Wheatley exit in major management revamp

Wheatley, who had chosen to leave Red Bull after nearly two decades to join the Sauber project and lead the transition into Audi as team principal, has departed the team.

"As it continues its journey towards the front of the grid, Audi Revolut F1 Team will implement significant changes to its senior management structure. Due to personal reasons, Jonathan Wheatley will depart the team with immediate effect. The team thanks Jonathan for his contribution to the project and wishes him the best for his future endeavours," Audi shared in a statement.

Audi finally added that "the team's future structure will be fully defined at a later stage, as the organisation continues to adapt to the evolving environment of Formula One. With the unwavering commitment of AUDI AG, Audi Revolut F1 Team will continue progressing towards challenging for championships by 2030."

In recent days, speculation has been mounting over Wheatley potentially joining Aston Martin as team principal, a role currently held by Adrian Newey, which would allow the renowned British designer to return to focusing solely on his technical duties.

However, according to GPblog’s information, it's early to say that a move to Aston Martin is a done deal, but Wheatley is on the team's radar.

The team is actively exploring the market for Newey’s successor, regardless of when that appointment may take effect. The final decision will rest with Aston Martin’s co-owners, Adrian Newey and Lawrence Stroll.
