Aston Martin Chief Trackside Officer Mike Krack has spoken about the importance of protecting the team’s drivers from the criticism surrounding the difficult start to the season. The Luxembourger also confirmed that major upgrades are not expected to arrive before the summer.
Alongside Cadillac, the Silverstone-based outfit remains one of only two teams yet to score a single point after four races, with Aston Martin being plagued not only by a major lack of performance but also by serious reliability issues that have effectively condemned both drivers to running at the back of the field. The disappointing start comes despite the huge excitement generated by Adrian Newey’s arrival, which had raised expectations significantly for the AMR26 heading into the 2026 season.

Aston Martin delay big upgrade package until summer

Speaking to GPblog among other media outlets in Montreal, Krack stressed the importance of protecting Aston Martin’s drivers amid the team’s difficult run of form, pointing out how repeatedly facing the same questions race after race can become mentally exhausting for those fighting near the back of the field.
“The drivers are the ones that need to be protected the most because you ask them the same question every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and then the week after, again. So for them it's the most difficult to be repetitive and give you each time the same response. We need to protect the drivers from that because they accumulate that frustration being at the back of the field.”

Shifting the focus onto Aston Martin’s development plans, Krack admitted the team is currently introducing only smaller refinements rather than the kind of major upgrade packages usually unveiled during race weekends. More substantial developments are expected to arrive around the summer period, while the team is presently concentrating on less visible detail changes across multiple areas of the car in an attempt to gradually improve performance.
“There is modifications on the car but there is not this kind of modifications that you expect from a big list of upgrades that are being disclosed on Friday morning. These parts will come around the summer. So for the moment it is detail changes in several areas that are not so visible, but that will help us to improve.”

Stroll doubles down on Aston Martin belief ahead of home Canadian GP

Despite Krack admitting that major upgrades are unlikely to arrive before the summer break, home favourite Stroll remains convinced Aston Martin’s long-term project is still heading in the right direction despite the team’s disastrous start to the 2026 campaign.

Ahead of his home Grand Prix in Canada, the Aston Martin driver pointed to the growing infrastructure at the AMR Technology Campus, including the team’s new wind tunnel and simulator, as clear signs that the foundations for future success are already being put in place behind the scenes.
While results on track have so far fallen well below expectations, Stroll stressed that periods like this are part of the process of building a top Formula 1 team, insisting the current struggles have not damaged his confidence in the project whatsoever. The Canadian instead underlined how difficult moments are often the true test of belief within a team, adding that Aston Martin still has all the ingredients needed to eventually become a race-winning force in Formula 1.
