Ferrari’s
Maurizio Arrivabene has claimed Sunday’s race was still successful for the Italian team, despite their number 1 driver finishing off the podium and losing his championship lead. A mistake from Vettel cost Ferrari a 1-2.
The second Ferrari, Kimi Raikkonen, managed to finish in 2nd place achieving his 3rd podium in 2018.
To sum up the weekend, Arrivabene remained impressed, admitting that they were “very competitive.”
“Our car proved to be very competitive and capable of doing well on any kind of circuit,” said Arrivabene after the Baku Grand Prix.
“We were controlling the race with Sebastian, but the double intervention of the safety car cancelled the gap we had built up.”
The safety car was brought out twice during the race, with the final safety car taking a while to leave the track. Originally it was deployed for the Red Bull crash but then Romain Grosjean hit the wall.
This made tyres hard to keep warm.
Arrivabene added: “As for Kimi, after the accident on lap 1, he charged back to second place.
“All weekend long, the team reacted strongly and calmly, and now we’re looking ahead to the next race in Spain.”
